This rich original piece was written in honor of Kevin’s mentor and friend, Roxanne Hammond, who brought handbells to his native Colorado Springs, established a long-lasting festival, and grew handbell programs throughout her life. Roxanne was one of the first people to show Kevin just how much handbells can do and how meaningful this artform can be.

The fast-paced first and last sections are related to Kevin’s famous “Capriccio”, hence the subtitle “Capriccio #2”. The middle section reflects Roxanne’s joy in soaring melodies and intricate harmonies. A challenging work for worship or concert, this music is uplifting and full of the generous spirit of one of our instrument’s true champions.
