IN DULCI JUBILO – J.S. Bach/arr. Jefferey A. Hall and Kevin McChesney – 3-5 octaves handbells – Level IV
The two settings of Bach’s In Dulci Jubilo are designed to have great versatility. Here are some of the performance options:
1) Each setting may be played individually. For greater length, a setting may be repeated, possibly at a different dynamic level.
2) The Chorale may be used as an introduction to the fuller setting.
3) The Chorale may be used after the fuller setting as a conclusion.
4) An ABA form may be constructed by playing the Chorale, then the fuller setting, then the Chorale again, or vice versa.
5) The Chorale may be played on organ (or by brass or other instruments) rather than on handbells in any of the above combinations. Another option would be to have both organ (or brass or other instruments) and handbells play the Chorale as a conclusion, making sure that keys are compatible.
Note: in the audio preview, the fuller setting is first; the chorale setting begins at 1:28.
