ABERYSTWYTH is a classic Welsh hymn tune by Joseph Parry, best known with the Charles Wesley’s text, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul.” This arrangement plays on the rolling, tumultuous melody, evoking the hymn’s words: “Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly while the nearer-waters roll, while the tempest still is high; hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past; safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last!”

In this exciting arrangement, the tune shifts between the challenging handbell tree part and the equally shining piano part, making this a truly collaborative musical experience that embraces both instruments. Progressing through the keys of A minor, F-sharp minor, and G minor, this piece is a great showcase of handbell tree setups that allow movement from key to key.

A more accessible simplified handbell tree part is included, but don’t let the word “simplified” fool you: both versions provide a challenge and are suitable for both church and concert settings.
